The movie Unstoppable is inspired by a similar incident back in 2001 which is the "Crazy Eights" unmanned train incident. It is about a toxic chemical carried by an unmanned train going into an acute disaster. The protagonists are left to ride another locomotive and chase the runaway train and stop it before it's too late.
